In your visitor's language

Your Kard's buttons and labels switch to the visitor's language, in eight languages. Your own words stay as you wrote them, and your name, job title and company can be in a second language too.

Your Kard travels further than your language does. The words eKard puts on your public page, the buttons, labels and hints, switch to your visitor's language by themselves, in eight languages. The words you wrote stay exactly as you wrote them, and your name, job title and company can be written in a second language too, for the visitors who read it. There's nothing to set up, and it's on every plan.

The eight languages

English, हिन्दी (Hindi), Español, Português, Français, العربية (Arabic), Bahasa Indonesia and Deutsch. Arabic reads right to left, and the page turns with it.

Which one a visitor sees

  1. The language they picked in the page's "Language" switcher, if they ever did: their browser remembers it.
  2. Otherwise, the first language their phone or browser asks for that the Kard speaks. A phone set to Spanish gets Spanish.
  3. Otherwise, English.

The switcher sits at the foot of the page, each language in its own name, so a visitor can change it any time. On a design of your own, it sits under the design.

Your page arrives with its words in every language, so a visitor reads theirs from the first moment: one reading Hindi or Arabic sees Hindi or Arabic straight away, with nothing more to load and no English first.

What changes, and what doesn't

  • Changes: eKard's own words on the page. "Save contact" and the exchange sheet with its fields and hints, the notes that tell a visitor how to finish saving you, the call, message and directions buttons, the pay buttons and their copy chips, the booking button, the bookmark, the days of your next free times, and the line at the foot that invites visitors to make their own.
  • Stays as you wrote it: your tagline, your About text, your custom links' titles, your documents' names, and anything in a design of your own. So do your name, job title and company, unless you also give them in your Kard's second language (below).

So write your own words in the language your visitors read most: eKard's words follow each visitor.

Your Kard's two languages

Each Kard also has languages of its own, for what's made once and handed to anyone: a main one and, if you like, a second. Your printed cards, your pictures and your QR screen say both, the main one first and largest; the message that goes with your link, your email signature and ready-made greetings are in the main one alone. Until you choose, a Kard follows your account's language, with English second when that isn't English (Your account). Change your account's language later and each such Kard keeps speaking to others as it did, and the page says so: "Your Kard still speaks English to others", with "Change". To choose, open the Kard's Settings and, under "Your Kard's language", pick a "Main language" and a "Second language" (or "None"), then press "Save". Print shows the same choice as "Words on the card", with "Change". On a team Kard, the team's admins choose. Either way, visitors still read your Kard in their own language.

Your name in two languages

On a Kard with two languages, Edit Kard has a box under Name, Job title and Company for the second one: "Name in English", say, on a Kard in Hindi and English (on your first Kard, under "More about you"). Write them as the people who read that language know you: "Priya Sharma" for "प्रिया शर्मा", or the English name your shop goes by. Each is optional, on every plan, and nothing is translated for you.

  • Who sees which: visitors who read the second language see what you wrote for it, and visitors who read the main one see your main name. Anyone else sees the second language's when only it is in Latin letters, so a Spanish visitor reads "Priya Sharma"; otherwise, the main name. Name, job title and company are each chosen this way, and so is the name wherever your page names you to a visitor: the title the page's share button hands their phone, your photo's description on every layout, and your initials on your team's "Our team" page.
  • Both names go where people meet your Kard before they open it: the page's title, which search engines show ("प्रिया शर्मा · Priya Sharma · …"), and the picture a pasted link shows (Share your card), the main one first. A search for either finds you.
  • A contact saved from your Kard is named as the visitor read it: one who read "Priya Sharma" saves Priya Sharma, one who read "प्रिया शर्मा" saves that, and the same goes for your job title and company. The other version goes beside it, as the contact's phonetic name and in its note, so typing either on their phone finds you.
  • Your main name stays on your own screens, on the cards you print and the pictures you make, and in your email signature.

Choose a different second language and what you wrote for the old one is kept out of sight: choose it again and it's back. On a team Kard, the company in the second language is set by the team's admins, as the company is.

Your own screens speak the language you chose in Profile, not your visitors': the Members page (all but its "Set up your team" card and the join link's notifications switch), What's new, For your trade and Profile's "Other browsers and phones" among them. Your account lists them all.

Good to know

You see your page in your own browser's language, the way a visitor in your country would. To see it as someone else does, pick another language in the switcher at the foot of your public page; your browser keeps that choice until you pick again.

The other way to meet a visitor halfway is how they pay: Get paid from your Kard puts what people use where you are first.
