Start from a paper card or a contact file

A photo of the card you hand out now, or a contact file from another card app or your phone, fills in New Kard for you to check.

If you already hand out a business card, or keep one in another card app, you don't have to type it all again. At the top of New Kard, a panel headed "Already have a business card?" reads it and fills in the form below. You check everything before you press "Create Kard": nothing is saved until then.

From a photo of your paper card

  1. Open Kards and press "New Kard".
  2. Choose "Start from your paper card" and take a photo of it, flat and in good light, or pick one you have. JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC, up to 15 MB.
  3. Reading it takes a few seconds. The panel then says what it filled in, such as "We filled in the name, job title, phone, email and website from your card."
  4. Check each field against your card, fix what's wrong and press "Create Kard".

Reading a photo comes with a paid plan (Plans and billing). On a free plan the tile says so, and a contact file works instead.

From a contact file

A contact file ends in .vcf. Linq, Popl, Blinq and HiHello give you one with Save contact or Export; on a phone, share your own contact as a file. Choose "Start from a contact file" and pick it, up to 10 MB. A file holding several contacts asks "Which one is you?" and lists them, with a search box for a long list. Contact files work on every plan.

What gets filled in

The name, job title, company and tagline, a phone and an email, a WhatsApp number, the website, social profiles (more links become custom links), and the photo a contact file carries. An address becomes your Kard's Location button, a map search for it, since a Kard has no address line.

Under the panel's "We filled in" line, "Worth a look" marks what was reshaped, "Not added" lists what was read but has no place on a Kard, with why (a Kard shows one phone number, say), and a line names the main fields your card didn't have, to add yourself. When a photo was hard to read, the panel asks you to check each field against the card.

To use the picture as the Kard's photo, tick "Use this photo of your card as the Kard's photo", or for a contact file "Use the photo from your contact file as the Kard's photo". A photo you add under Photo takes its place.

Good to know

Your photo or file is read only to fill in the form, and isn't kept. A photo is kept only if you choose it as the Kard's photo.

The rest of the form works as in Make your first Kard.
